With a whirlwind of color, colorful characters, and off color humor, this tale is sure to delight you and the kids. And of course, you don’t want o miss the Mad Hatter’s very merry unbirthday.
A cult classic, if you’ve got a little girl, she’ll love this story’s main character Matilda. Featuring an all-star cast including Mara Wilson and Danny Devito, follow a young girl with a penchant for reading who is stuck in a television loving family and strict “by the rules, no nonsense” school. Throw in some magical telekinetic powers, and you have got a fun night for the whole family.
Another cult classic, this one hailing from all the way back in 1957, this addition is a must see (especially for dog lovers!). Follow young Tommy Kirk on his rural adventures with his trusty dog, Old Yeller. Forewarning, powerful life lessons are taught in this movie, and the end is going to have you in tears. Still, it’s a wonderful addition to any movie night.
The Jungle Book
A child friendly adaptation of the book, The Jungle Book is the perfect movie for any budding animal lovers out there. It follows Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves, as he is accompanied by friend and protector Bhageera while they attempt to avoid his hunter, the tiger Shere Khan. He meets all kinds of fun characters, like the care free sloth bear Baloo. There’s also plenty of danger, like Kaa the snake and Shere Khan. You and your little ones are sure to enjoy this romp through the jungle on the big screen.
Labyrinth nails what every fantasy world about a teenage girl finding her kidnapped brother in the clutches of the Goblin King misses: David Bowie. Starring a young Jennifer Connelly, this movie’s musical numbers will stay in your head for a long time. This is a must see that should be included on any child’s movie list.
Beauty and the Beast
This Disney classic is a must have addition to any little girl’s movie collection. With all kinds of wonderful morals, like that it is what on the inside that matters, this movie is great for budding minds. A book worm heroine sets a great example for your little girl, and the book is replete with fantastic musical numbers.
This animation marvel is a must see. Unlike previous animated movies, this one uses a style where all the parts are constantly moving (even the hair on the little bunny’s head), rather than using a set background. The amount of work this requires is phenomenal. With that in mind, follow Judy Hopps on her quest to join a police force dominated by bigger, fiercer animals, and help her unfoil a plot to take control of the city.
When their kingdom becomes trapped in perpetual winter, fearless Anna joins forces with mountaineer Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick to find Anna’s sister, Snow Queen Elsa, and break her icy spell. Although their epic journey leads them to encounters with mystical trolls, a comedic snowman (Josh Gad), harsh conditions, and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff bravely push onward in a race to save their kingdom from winter’s cold grip.
Harry Potter is a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.
